Exemption, or weight
For an electric car the question is not how high the tariff is but whether it applies at all. Some cantons exempt electric vehicles entirely, or for a fixed number of years. Others have no exemption and tax by weight – and because the battery makes an electric car heavier than the combustion car it replaces, it pays more there than the car it was meant to replace. Read the notes: several exemptions expire after a set number of years.
